We have some exciting news to share, the 2017 McLaren Vale Shiraz has been awarded Best In Show at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards with a score of 97 Points.
116 top wine experts blind tasted 16,518 wines to award only 50 wines with Best In Show. This is the second time the McLaren Vale Shiraz has won this prestigious award at the Decanter World Wine Awards, with the 2015 vintage receiving it in the 2018 competition.
The judging panel had this to say about the 2017 McLaren Vale Shiraz:
This Shiraz is an impenetrable black-red, smelling of stone, earth, oil and rich black fruits. Those same fruits across the tongue with great vigour and purity, amplifying as they do so; the structure of the wine is as much a function of fruit architecture as it is of tannins (which are soft and supple here) or the moderate, well-judged acidity. Very fine work – with very fine fruit.
This is an outstanding result and I’m incredibly proud to have taken home this award considering the calibre of the wines we were up against.
Being the 17th consecutive release of our Flagship Shiraz, receiving an award like this helps to confirm this wines place in the upper reaches of premium Shiraz on the world stage with our traditional wine style.
